#1 Rule: ALL STORIES WILL BE PUBLISHED ONLINE! Every story submitted will be part of our online collection and accessible to people to read and share with others in their own communities. In October, during ISAAC’s International AAC Awareness Month, people who use AAC will read these stories all over the world. Every author will receive a special acknowledgement for their work.

Within the collected stories, a few will also be highlighted. The highlighted stories will be selected by a special committee of judges.

How Will My Story be Judged?

Each story will be reviewed by select members of the ISAAC Board of Directors, who will score each story based upon the following traits:

IDEAS
ORGANIZATION
VOICE
WORD CHOICE
SENTENCE FLUENCY
CONVENTIONS
PRESENTATION

Judges will also factor in an authors age and skill level when comparing stories.

And remember- a good story will:

1. Be exciting or engaging! - Anything you are excited to talk about has the potential to become a great story.

2. Use core vocabulary (See Vocabulary page)

3. Use simple sentences that contain only one thought.

4. Include AAC - such as a character who uses AAC, a character learning about AAC, or AAC as a theme in the storyline

5. Have a beginning, a middle and an end

6. Use dialogue between or by characters.

7. Be edited and have no spelling or grammar errors

8. Be read aloud in one sitting – about 500 words

9. Include visual material such as pictures, illustrations, or photographs.

10. Include Enrichment, Transitional and Conventional text (AAC and Literacy page)
